Concept Reference Photo
This is the concept photo that John Webster of Abacus
Graphics took in Hawaii. A group of friends enjoying a beautiful sunset and
reflecting on life. It represents the basic concept for the wall - the
feeling of hope.
The completed concept will have women of varying ages and
different ethnic backgrounds enjoying a beautiful sunset on a local beach.
It is a simple expression of hope for all women.

This is the original concept photo as it would appear on the
wall. The basic elements are represented here as a guide to work from.
The project goal is to recreate the basic concept photo with
new models and a new location.

New Concept Photo Collage
Here we have the new models in the new location. The photos
were taken in 3 different sessions on different days to accommodate the
schedules of the models I had chosen.
There are eight women, from young to old sharing a special
moment together on a local beach enjoying a peaceful sunset.
It expresses hopefulness and beauty for all women.
This photo collage will serves as the reference for the art
director to show the clients as well as for me to use while doing the
painting.

New Concept Photo Collage mockup
This is the new concept photo placed onto the wall.
We have added a painted border on the wall to frame and
accent the painting. The colors of the border pull the warm colors in the
painting and floor out and tie the painting into the room.
We have arranged the elements of the sand, rocks, sea and
sky to create the feeling that the painting is a natural extension of the
room.
The group of women are situated naturally into the scene and
are being bathed in the warm sunset light. |

Models detail
A close up of the models reveals some of their interesting
details. You can see there are women of different ages and ethnicity that
represent the various stages of life and diversity of cultures.
From the little girl with her mother to an elderly cancer
survivor reflecting on life- from a young girl looking serenely straight
back at you with her sister to a women looking hopefully ahead out to sea,
and more - we have a symbolic representation of the life of all women.
The lighting and color you see here is not consistent; I
will have to adjust the lighting while painting to be consistently bright
and warm. The painting will have added textural qualities and be softer
overall. |

ROUND 2
|
After review of the concept at this point, the following
refinements to the composition were requested:
1. Re-arrange the models
and spread them out to allow a more natural space between them.
2. Bring out the fact that one of the women is elderly.
3. Make the color of the sky a little warmer.
4. Add some seagulls to the composition.
5. Tone down the faux painted wall. |

Revised Concept Photo Collage
John, after meeting with the client came back with the
following revisions:
1. Models re-arranged and opened up.
2. Older women's details enhanced.
3. Sky and overall lighting warmed up.
4. Seagulls added.
We also selected some different poses of the models that we
felt gave a more joyous expression, and we balanced the lighting.
